Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept as part of the ongoing IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2013. Traditionally, the top of the range Mercedes-Benz is a grand coupe and the S-Class Coupe Concept previews the upcoming styling direction of the production-ready car to top out the Mercedes-Benz line-up.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept “embodies sensual clarity in a modern way” and is characterised by its rear-wheel drive layout and as the following images show, the S-Class Coupe Concept features a long bonnet complete with distinctive lines and power domes. The car is then rolling on a set of 21-inch wheels measuring 265/35 R 21 at the front and 295/35 R 21 at the rear. Overall, the Mercedes-Bez S-Class Coupe Concept has a wheelbase of 2945mm and measures 5050mm in length, 1958mm wide and is 1409mm high.

At the front, the S-Class Coupe Concept incorporates a diamond front grille with the traditional three-pointed star badge. It also features full-LED headlights with LED daytime running lights. While the S-Class Coupe Concept may feature the S-Class nameplate, it shares almost no common design elements with the standard S-Class sedan.

Moving to the inside, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept features a sleek white cabin completed with a new instrument panel. Adding to the redesigned interior is a newly designed airbag which allowed designers to lower part of the instrument panel to give it the shape you see in the gallery above.

Most importantly, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept is powered by a V8 Bi-Turbo engine delivering a total of 455hp from its 4.7-liter displacement. Peak output is then rated at 700Nm. While this new powerplant certainly is impressive, it’s arguably overshone by the numerous other technical components of the car.

The S-Class Coupe Concept features the “Intelligent Drive” technology which utilises a stereo camera providing a three-dimensional view of up to 50 metres in front of the vehicle. The car then includes 6DVision which helps detect the positive and movement of objects in front of the car from as far as 500 metres away!

Another interesting aspect of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept is its unique suspension setup. Like the regular S-Class, it can detect surface undulations in advance and if changes in front of the car are detected, Magic Body Control adjusts the suspension to suit the situation.

  1. this S Class roof, the clear roof,is ot real or conceptual? We have seen it on many a concept car (Mazda, Lincoln, Mustang, etc) but can it be for real on a production car? Maybach tech could tint the clear glass, but this is the latest tech (darker and faster), much much better. See the "Next Honda", from Honda Jet to understand this digital revolution in auto glass.
