Report: Range Rover Evoque Convertible Heading to Production

Just three months ago, it was reported that the Range Rover Evoque Convertible was scrapped for production. However, fast forward to the present day and it appears as though Land Rover has done a back flip and approved the Range Rover Evoque Convertible for production according to a company insider.

While speaking with What Car?, the company insider reportedly said, “The Evoque Convertible now has the green light, it’s going to be built.” As you may recall, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible was first previewed at the Geneva Motor Show 2012 early last year and was just what it sounds like, a drop-top variant of the already impressive Range Rove Evoque.

Range Rover’s decision to actually create the Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept was already surprising as it’s targeted at such a small niche market of convertible SUV’s currently occupied by the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet.

According to the aforementioned company insider, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be based on the three-door variant of the Evoque Coupe and will feature a fabric roof instead of a retractable hard-top. Unsurprisingly, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be offered with the same petrol and diesel engines as the regular Evoque as well as two wheel drive and four wheel drive.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is expected to hit the production line in 2014.
