Some things in life can be so counterintuitive that they’re simply written off without a second thought and this is often for good reason. Some things however can be extremely counterintuitive while simultaneously being very effective, efficient and in the case of the Nissan DeltaWing, extremely fast.

The DeltaWing made its endurance racing debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this year and despite having an exciting start to the race, it was forced to retire on the 75th lap after colliding with a concrete barrier before competing at Road Atlanta around six weeks ago.

And just two days after the DeltaWing’s debut at the high-downforce Road Atlanta racing track, Chris Harris for the Drive channel on YouTube got the chance to drive the car and experience just how potent a racing car it truly is.

Although the DeltaWing only produces 320hp, it weighs a barely believable 417kg resulting in an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio which makes it as fast, if not faster than many LMP1 along the straight at Road Atlanta and comparatively as fast through the corners.
