Although official details about Maserati’s upcoming mini-sedan to sit below the Quattroporte have yet to be released, spyshots have just surfaced capturing the Ghibli undergoing winter testing and it is now clear, that development of the car is at quite an advanced stage.

At this early stage, the Ghibli is rumoured to make its official public debut at the 2013 Geneva or Shanghai Motor Show and should compete directly with the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Series and Audi A6.

The following shots were captured in the icy north of Sweden and even though they appear to portray a Quattroporte, if you look closely this particular car is significantly shorter than the Quattroporte and the compact size is clearly evident in the length between the B and C pillars. It is currently believed that based on these spyshots and previous reports, the Maserati Ghibli will measure approximately 4.70 meters.

The Ghibli is currently expected to ride on the same platform shared by the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger and could be fitted with a turbocharged 3.5 liter Pentastar V6 engine developing between 375hp and 400hp with a ZF automatic transmission also set to be available for the car.
