The United States of America has always been home to the muscle car. And with the latest generation of muscle cars recently being released by firms such as Ford and Chevrolet, this heritage is set to continue, but that doesn’t mean other countries can’t get into the action.

Germany also has quite a proud list of what some would call ‘European muscle cars’ in the form of the BMW M3, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and the Audi RS5, but can these compete with the pure straight line performance American muscle is known for?

Well in a recent EVO video published on YouTube, the latest Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is quite the competitor for the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 even though it’s significantly underpowered. In fact, the C63 AMG produces just 487hp while the Mustang pumps out 662hp, so one would think the Mustang should breeze to victory straight off the line.

We won’t ruin the result for you, but you may be surprised how close the first half of the race is!

  1. May want to turn traction control off on the GT500 next time. That blinking red signal in the video is an icon we like to use to show it is enbled. May get a better idea of the dominating power of the GT500 if it is turned off.

  2. Not a fan of this video. It begins by saying the mustang doesn't "do corners", which in light of recent comparisons (notably Motortrend's 2011 Mustang GT vs 2013 BMW M3) simply isn't true anymore. Than it is faced against a car with so much less power, it's just not entertaining. I know the cars are closer price-wise, but everything is cheaper in America so that isn't a relevant point of comparison anymore.

  3. That Mercedes would fare no better against the GT500 on a road course than it did in the straight line race.

  4. C63 weighs 3,924 lbs. with 487 h.p.

    Shelby GT500 weighs 3,850 lbs. with 662 h.p.

Unless there Is there some, recently discovered, rule of science which reverses the concept of power to weight ratio…
the lighter Mustang with more than 20% greater horsepower, will win in a drag race in a straight line…duh.
