Maserati CEO Confirms Five New Models in Next Three Years

Two days ago we reported on how a Maserati employee supposedly leaked information about the possibility of a new Maserati sports car to supersede the GranTurismo and sit atop the Maserati line-up.

However, in a recent interview with What Car? Maserati CEO, Herald Wester went onto reveal that the Italian brand has plans for five new models by 2015 and a notable absentee from that list is this supposed new range-topping supercar.

Nevertheless, the next few years are set to be very busy for Maserati. Wester firstly revealed that the recently launched 2014 Maserati Quattroporte will signify the start of Maserati’s expansion, being the first of the five new models planned.

Following on from this will by the Quattroporte’s baby-brother, the Ghibli, while the Levante SUV is expected to be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and hit showroom floors by mid-2014. And after these three models are out of the way, then we get into the really exciting stuff.

Wester revealed that a replacement for the GranTurimso is currently in the works and expected for a launch in 2015, alongside a new entry-level sports car designed to compete with the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type. The new GranTurismo, according to Wester, will be slightly smaller than the outgoing model and have similar proportions to the Jaguar XK. After all, supercars seem to be getting bigger by the month, so we can most certainly see the reasons behind this logic.

The small sports car also planned, is expected to be a two-seater, rear-wheel drive and is previous reports are accurate, then it could even be mid-engined!

By 2015, Maserati aims to sell around 50,000 units annually, which is great news for car enthusiasts like us as very few supercar manufacturers have a pedigree to compete with that of Maserati’s.
