It’s not every day that someone is given the opportunity to drive a legendary car such as the RUF Yellowbird, but Jethro Bovingdon from Car & Driver was recently given that exact opportunity as well as the chance to drive the Yellowbird’s spiritual successor, the RUF CTR 3.

The RUF Yellowbird used to be the world’s fastest production car with its 500+ horsepower 3.4 liter twin-turbocharged engine sending the Yellowbird to well beyond 200mph. Combined with its legendary name, this particular RUF is arguably the German brand’s most successful supercar and a car trying to be matched be the much more modern RUF CTR 3.

The RUF CTR 3 is fitted with a twin-turbo 3.8 liter flat six cylinder engine which produces a barely-believable 700 horsepower at 7,000rpm and 657lb-ft of torque at 4,000rpm. That is enough grunt to send the supercar to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds and onto a claimed top speed of 375km/h. As a result, the CTR 3 is one of the world’s fastest production cars.
