At the Essen Motor Show 2012, specialist Bilstein has showed their new iRC add-on for the control unit of the B16 ridecontrol suspension, which automatically controls the adjustment. When the driver selects the additional automatic mode, the suspension switches from soft to firm and vice-versa. In this way, the iRC enables automatic adjustment to the driver’s requirements.
The free iPhone app offers manual switching and the installation of a switch in the cockpit is no longer required. Thanks to the combination of the iRC and iPhone app, users can program the automatic mode as desired and make and enjoy individual adjustments. The passive chassis transforms itself into an active, regulated chassis. It is even possible to make real-time adjustments while driving. Developed and produced exclusively for the B16 ridecontrol system, the iRC with app will be available from spring 2013.
The electronic coilover suspension is available for the VW Golf V, VI and the new Golf VII, Audi A4 and BMW 3 and 5 series. The driver can use the modes Comfort, Normal and Sport. There is memory space for the parameter settings, which can be changed as desired via the app.
The user can adjust the threshold values with regard to longitudinal or transverse acceleration. The response time and filtering of vertical acceleration can also be programmed. The automatic switching operations and longitudinal and transverse acceleration values can be monitored, altered if necessary and re-memorized via the live view diagram on the Smartphone display.
A sensor initiates the switching operations at appropriately short intervals, depending on the previously set values. If the unit is reset, the values entered by the driver remain in the memory of the iPhone app until new settings have been determined and saved per mobile phone. Parameters which have been set can also be reset to the default setting.
