The era of the new Ferrari F70 supercar is starting at the Detroit Motor Show 2013, which opens its doors in January next year. The Italians have decided to official release their new successor of the Enzo at the US carshow, which has been confirmed by Inside Line today.

The mid-engine two-seater supercar will have a more fuel economic setup including a Formula 1-style KERS hybrid system. The total performance of the 7.3 liter V12 engine will be around 900hp, which means the F70 will have the highest horsepower of any street-legal Ferrari ever made.

The release at the NAIAS 2013 carshow follows the release of the F70’s chassis at the Paris Motor Show 2012. The new monocoque is cutting edge technology. It is said to be 20 percent lighter and but 27 percent stiffer than the Enzo’s chassis. A nomex honeycomb structure has been used which is sandwiched between two layers of hi-grade carbon fiber. Ferrari fitted a Kevlar protective plate on to the underside of the body, which protects components placed below the monocoque.

Despite the monocoque’s reduction in overall weight, the hybrid drive system will add weight to the package overall which means that overall, the F70 should come in at just below 1,365kg.

The successor to Ferrari’s limited edition Enzo supercar is the fifth in a series of high-power, limited edition models that began with the 1984 288 GTO and includes the 1987 F40, the 1995 F50 and the 2002 Enzo.
