One of the most special road-legal Porsche cars is for sale. Via duPont Registry an US owner is offering the last GT1 Strassenversion car built for $2,325,000.

The 911 GT1 was built for Porsche’s participation in the GT1 class in the 1996 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and sportscar racing. Homologation standards required that a total of 25 cars must be built for road use. The limited-production street-legal version was labeled the 911 GT1 Straßenversion (Street version), which is literally a road-going racing car.

Although the engine of the road-going 911 GT1 had to be slightly de-tuned to 536hp to meet European emissions laws, the car offered here has a total output of 690 horsepower, which enables it to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds. The top speed is a whopping 378km/h.

The vehicle only has 4,900 kilometers on the odometer. It was recently serviced by Porsche and is listed as being in museum condition.

  1. If god had wheels and drove a car, this would, in all likelihood be it. Ultimate beauty, technology and performance, all captured in a single extraordinary vehicle from the greatest sports car maker in the world. If I had only one wish granted me, it would be for this car. One can always dream?

  2. THere were 3 versions of the GT1, the ’96, ’97 and ’98.
The ’96 version looked like a 993, while the ’97 was based on the 996. The ’98 modell was a pure prototype and as far as I know only one Strassenversion was build and is owned by Porsche AG.
The car on the picture is the ’97 GT1.

  3. Agree on the looks Barry, it is spectacular, especially the rear end. Saw one race in around 1999-2002 and love it. Today however I would rip the engine out and replace it with a modern Porsche engine as so much tech has happened since then. Maybe some suspension upgrades and better tires no slimmer than 335 in the back and 240 in the front. And Carbon Ceramic 6p front and 4p back brakes in the 350+ mm size if there can be room. One can dream :)..
