Details Mercedes G-Class Facelift Emerge

Mercedes-Benz recently announced production of the G-Class will be extended until at least 2020. In order to keep this four-wheel drive SUV running for a longer period of time a facelift is planned. But now a few details have been leaked before its official unveiling in June and the most significant changes come with the AMG models.

Let’s start with the regular G-Class where not much will change besides from a few minor cosmetic modifications. These models will be offered as a long wheelbase four-door wagon or two-door short wheelbase convertible, which won’t be available as an AMG powered version. The G350 BlueTEC will be powered by the same engine as it currently also has, the diesel powered 3.0 liter V6 with an output of 211 horsepower. The G500 will be powered by a 5.5 liter V8 with an output of 388hp.

The current G55 AMG is powered by a supercharged 5.4 liter V8 which puts out 507hp and 700Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. But this is about to change as its successor will be known as the G63 AMG. This model will be equipped with the 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 which also powers the – 63 – models of the C-, CLS-, E-, ML-, S- and the new SL-Class.

Power of G63 AMG’s engine – the twin-turbo V8 – is rated at 544hp with a peak torque of 800Nm. The engine of the G63 will be mated to 7G-Tronic automatic transmission which is also available on the previously mentioned ’63’ models.

The highly anticipated G65 AMG will come with a 6.0 liter twin-turbo V12 from the S65 and CL65. This engine will deliver 612hp and will also be paired with the 7G-Tronic transmission. This
