Video Development of the New 2012 Porsche 911 (991)

August Achleitner, Manager of the 911 model line, delivers an insight into the development of the latest 911 (991). The 911 Carrera S with PDK manages to accelerate from nought to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds. Pressing the Sport Plus button on the optional Sport Chrono package cuts that to 4.1 seconds. The 911 Carrera with PDK needs only 4.6 seconds (Sport Plus 4.4 seconds) to sprint from a standing start to 100km/h.

According to Car Magazine, the new 911 will be around for at least two product lifecycles, in total fourteen years. And over the course of its life, it will of course have many more derivatives as the model it replaces. First models to be revealed are the convertible Carrera and Carrera S, followed by the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S. A 520-horsepower twin-spool 911 Turbo is planned for 2013 and the Turbo Cabrio is in 2014. The 911 GT3 is arriving in 2013. Finally, a 911 Targa is rumoured to be released in late 2013 or early 2014 and has a sliding glass roof.
