Alfa Romeo Zagato TZ3 Stradale

The Alfa Romeo Zagato TZ3 Corsa was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este nearly a year ago. Designed and developed by Milanese coachbuilder and design house Zagato, the original TZ3 Corsa was originally built for German Alfa Romeo Zagato collector Martin Kapp as a race car that honors Alfa’s 100 years of production and the long tradition of race Alfas with Zagato body.

The TZ3 Corsa was not a prototype. It’s an one-off, not road legal and will remain a one-off. No more units in the future will be build. The original car was based on a monoshell carbon fiber chassis which is coupled with a steel tubes roll cage. The body is formed by handbeaten alloy panels. The engine is a 4.2 Maserati V8.

The second step of Zagato’s TZ Project is the 2010 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale. The Alfa TZ3 isn’t related to the TZ3 Corsa in terms of “road legal version”. Zagato Atelier never conceived the project in such a way. Despite a resemblance, they are totally different in terms of mechanical layout. The TZ3 Stradale is 600 kilos heavier than the TZ3 Corsa.

The TZ3 Stradale is based on the Dodge Viper regarding rolling chassis, engine, gearbox, suspensions and so on and it is totally road-legal. It was commissioned by an American enthusiast. It is bodied with a carbon fiber body and has the same dimensions and weight of its donor-car.

The new Zagato TZ3 Stradale will make its world debut in August at the Pebble Beach Concours.

  1. Interesting that they’ve chosen a discontinued car as the base. The Viper is certainly capable, and possibly more reliable, but parts will be limited in the future.
