Official 2012 Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador

Official details of the much awaited Aventador LP700-4, replacement for the Murcielago, have been released alongside images of the car. You’ve probably already seen the leaked shots by now, but Lamborghini have just made the release of the car official at the annual VAG pre-Geneva press conference.

The design retains the traditional vertical door mechanism too. The resemblance to the Reventòn and the Estoque is also noticeable, taking design cues from fighter jets once more. The Aventador Lamborghini LP700-4 measures 4.78 meters long, 2.26 wide (including mirrors) and stands 1.14 meters tall.

As with all Lamborghini’s this car is named after a bull. Aventador was the name of a bull that entered into battle in October 1993 at the Saragossa Arena, earning the “Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera” for its outstanding courage.

The engine of the Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador, which was released early on is a new 6.5 liter V12, which weighs 235kg and delivers 700hp at 8,250rpm and 690Nm at 5,500rpm. The LP700-4 weighs just 1,575 kilograms (3,472lb) which means that the Aventador has a power to weight ratio of 2.25kg/hp or (4.96lb/hp).

The new seven-speed ISR transmission is unique among road-going vehicles, guaranteeing the fastest shifting time (only 50 milliseconds). The gearbox is light weight too weighing just 79kg.

In addition, the Drive Select Mode System enables the driver to choose vehicle characteristics (engine, transmission, differential, steering and dynamic control) from three settings – Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track) – to suit his individual preferences. Included with the Aventador is a Launch Control system similar to those offered by competitors.

The entire monocoque weighs only 147.5 kilograms (325.18lb). The monocoque, together with the front and rear Aluminium frames, features an impressive combination of extreme torsional stiffness of 35,000Nm per degree and weighs only 229.5 kilograms (505.9lb)

The pushrod spring and damper suspension was inspired by Formula 1 and tuned perfectly to meet the needs of a high-performance road-going vehicle. The car also features aluminium double wishbone suspension coupled with a carbon-fiber ceramic brake system. The later hides the the tires measuring 255/35 on the front with 19 inch wheels and 335/30 at the rear on 20 inch wheels.

Aerodynamics to feature on the car include its a flat undercarriage, and a self-adjusting spoiler that comes out and tilts to 4 or 11 degrees to provide the necessary downforce in all driving conditions. Air intakes and vents to ensure heat dissipation and, as the Murcielago, there are a couple on the rear wheel arches that open only when needed.

A choice of two-tone interiors is on offer with the “Sportivo” and “Elegante” versions, while a premium audio system and reversing camera are among the many technology options. Of course, the “Ad Personam” individualization program knows no limits when it comes to colors and materials. On the exterior, 13 production paint colours are available to choose from, three are highly sophisticated matt tones.

The whole car is assembled in the house by Lamborghini.Deliveries will start in late 2011. Prices?

  1. What a wow factor this thing has.

Small niggles are that on a 380k car they still used a Audi R8 steering wheel and switch gear from other Audi cars.

I am sure it drives more vicious though than any Audi product.

    I want one.
