Goodwood 2010 Alpina B5 Biturbo

On show today at Goodwood Festival of Speed was the Alpina B5 Biturbo. Full details were made available and we can now reveal that the B5 Biturbo Saloon shares its V8 engine with the 550i. The engineers at the German firm have managed to replicate the horsepower figures that we see in the outgoing M5.

As already suggested, the 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces 500bhp (507PS) with the torque figure reaching 700Nm at 3000rpm. All this power reaches the wheels via an eight-speed Sport Automatic ZF 8HP70 gearbox. 0-100km/h (62mph) is dealt with in 4.7 seconds with the top speed reaching an impressive 307km/h (191mph).

The car wears 20 inch Alpina CLassic rims with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tyres in sizes 8.5×20 225/35 ZR20 at the front and 9×20 285/30 ZR20 at the rear.

A new front bumper has been installed, replacing the fog lights in favour of extra engine cooling. There is a new rear bumper with a new diffuser and the B5 also uses a new stainless steel exhaust system. Inside there is new upholstery and a new set of Alpina bading together with Alpina side sills.

Comparisons between the upcoming BMW F10 M5 and the B5 are inevitable, however, both cars will perform differently and we expect the F10 M5 to pack a bit more punch. Gearboxes, for example, will be different in the M5 with a dual clutch automatic box expected in that car. Overall, the Alpina B5 offers refinement in key areas over the standard car.
